Journey to Leadville - Byrne - June 21, 2012

58 days until the 2012 Leadville Trail 100 Mile Run....

John Byrne and Curt Johnson stretching after 6.6 miles - Rick Fountain photographer
My camera is fixed! - NOT.  This clear, bright colored photo is from Rick's phone, not mine :o) This was our last run prior to Saturday's 24 hour run. Our intention was to take an easy hour long run. We accomplished this for the first few miles out. On the way back, Mr. Fountain must have had an extra bowl of Wheaties before our run because he broke into a quick stride on the way back, even though we had over 3 miles to go. Curt's garmin said we ran our last 3 miles around 8 minutes, 7:30, and 6:15 - 6:30 with the last half mile at Jen Paul pace - around 5:45! Great, cool morning to run. Slight sprinkle at the beginning, felt very little humidity.

not sure why I can't get the picture of the map to show. We ran a ways north past Interstate 80 on Utica Ridge Road.

The Bettendorf News is sending a photographer over to the track on Saturday to take some pictures and are going to do an article. We're hoping to raise money for Charly Erpelding's family so hopefully this article could draw some attention and raise funds to help the family out.

Rest day tomorrow - not even going to play basketball. Must rest for the long day on Saturday. We've had a number of friends tell us they plan to join us - it should be fun - I can't wait!

Until my next post, have a great day!  DIG DEEP!
