Journey to Leadville - Byrne - April 21, 2012

120 days until the 2012 Leadville Trail 100 Mile Run....

 Another good day - all these Saturdays seem to be great. Katie Gaffney, Rick Fountain and I started at Crow Creek Park at 4:34 a.m. Katie sure knows how to push a fast pace. I'm reasonably confident that Rick and I would not have gone at this pace. But since there were 3 of us and Katie is so pleasant, it seemed much easier to keep pace with her. We ran a negative split on the back half - which always makes me happy. I never expect the 4:30 a.m. group to be very big so I wasn't disappointed. We had a feeling that many of those who typically join us might be participating in the Project Renewal race. Maurer and Uhde both posted PR's - way to go guys!

Katie stayed with us for the 2nd leg of this race and we were joined by Curt J, Emily B, Jay, and Curt S. Emily only wanted to do 6 today so we ran 3 miles out and came back to home base so she could get her miles in with some company. Rick and Curt J were pushing it fast on the back half of this run - good job men!

After we dropped Emily off to her car we continued northward along Devil's Glen Road. With a plan to finish at 7:30 am, I thought we would run for 15 minutes and turn around. Jay asked if we could just run 2 miles out so he could run 2 more miles back and finish with 10 miles even. So it did put us back later than 7:30 (actually about 7:35 is when we finished. The 3rd leg of this run is detailed below.

Planning on running for 3 hrs tomorrow morning as well. My legs are tired but this will be a good test.
