Journey to Leadville - Byrne - May 2, 2012

Jay and Rick - before the journey begins

John and Rick - Jay is fired from operating the camera - Rick's eyes are half closed!

last night the kids wanted to go on a run so Michael, Thomas, Joseph and I grabbed our neighbor Matthew Perk and we did 2.2 miles - it was fun. Joseph has a little motor on him - he was a little tired from 1/2 to 1 mile but he kicked it in the last mile - pretty impressive. I forget how short his legs are and we probably went out too fast. Thomas wanted to challenge Michael a few times but Michael wouldn't let him get ahead - the older brother psychological factor - I love it! Matthew tried to catch Michael at the end but wasn't able to either. I hope to do a lot more of these runs with the kids over the next few months. They aren't interested in runs more than a few miles but it is a fun time to get out with them. I believe Michael is going to run cross country for St. Ambrose next fall - that should be a fun experience for him.

It was lightning this morning but who cares! (more to come later) - we were climbing stairs at Jumer's Tower. Jay joined Rick and I at 5:05 a.m. We weren't sure how many we would do today but sort of figured it would be a minimum of 25. As we started moving through, Jay said we should do at least 30 since that is what we did last week. He received no arguments from Rick or I. Around 25 we decided that we would do 31 to beat our old record. So that's what we did - 279 stories - almost 3 times up the John Hancock Tower in Chicago! We finished out with 31 push ups to commemorate our 31 trips up Jumer's Tower.

Until my next post, have a great day! DIG DEEP!
